UBI-hotspots: Open Infrastructure for Long-Term Large- Scale Pervasive Computing Research in Real-World Setting
نویسندگان
چکیده
We first motivate why dedicated pervasive computing infrastructure is needed for promoting long-term large-scale pervasive computing research in real-world setting. Then we briefly describe the UBI-hotspot infrastructure we have deployed at downtown Oulu, Finland, for this purpose. We conclude with a discussion on the challenges this kind of infrastructure deployment faces and our efforts of making the UBI-hotspots available to the whole community.

Keynote: Open UBI Oulu
Contemporary urban landscape is being pervaded by various forms of ubiquitous computing (‘ubicomp’) technologies. They provide new opportunities and challenges for the interaction with their inhabitants -essentially turning urban spaces into smart environments. However, cities as smart environments remain largely unexplored research wise, with smart cities’ impact on people’s daily lives much l...
متن کاملA context-sensitive dynamic role-based access control model for pervasive computing environments
Resources and services are accessible in pervasive computing environments from anywhere and at any time. Also, due to ever-changing nature of such environments, the identity of users is unknown. However, users must be able to access the required resources based on their contexts. These and other similar complexities necessitate dynamic and context-aware access control models for such environmen...
متن کاملA Digital City Needs Open Pervasive Computing Infrastructure
In this paper we promote open pervasive computing infrastructure in the public space as a prerequisite for conducting urban computing research with visible and lasting impact on the community. As a concrete example we present the UBI Open Urban Service Network currently being deployed in the City of Oulu, Finland.
متن کاملOpen Urban Computing Testbed
We present a unique urban computing testbed for studying the utilization of ubiquitous computing technology in the public urban space of a city center. The testbed comprises of a wide range of pervasive computing infrastructure and different middleware resources. We demonstrate the applicability and benefits of the testbed in evaluating technology pilots and prototyping new ubiquitous services ...
متن کاملA Chance Constrained Integer Programming Model for Open Pit Long-Term Production Planning
The mine production planning defines a sequence of block extraction to obtain the highest NPV under a number of constraints. Mathematical programming has become a widespread approach to optimize production planning, for open pit mines since the 1960s. However, the previous and existing models are found to be limited in their ability to explicitly incorporate the ore grade uncertainty into the p...
